I’ve been talking about not quitting, pushing through the hard stuff, and things like that in recent messages. A reply from one of them got me thinking about a subject I talked about a while back: sometimes you need to change direction.
That isn’t the same as giving up. For example, when I started Machine back in 2002, the business was doing motion graphics for TV shows. We did a ton of that kind of work on all the major cable channels. It was a good business, but eventually it stopped aligning with where I wanted to go.
If I hadn’t changed direction around 2015, this version of Machine would have never existed. This version of Machine is something I’m happy spending the rest of my life building.
Sometimes things out of our control push us toward a direction change. We’re seeing a lot of disruption now with the crazy advancements in technology putting a lot of people in a tough spot.
You might ask yourself:
“Do I keep pushing and try to make this work, or change direction?”
It’s a difficult place to be in. The only thing I can say is: don’t give up on yourself. Even if you have to totally change direction, you’re still moving forward.

I’m looking for egg-shelll stickers. Do you have prices for sizes?
