Something that hard times teach us is urgency. If shit’s on the verge of collapse, we usually get a surge of energy; something deep inside us that says we’re going to do everything we possibly can to get through.
There are times when the opposite happens if we allow it. The struggle can demoralize us into inaction. This only compounds the stress. Not only are we going through it, but now we’re sitting on our hands and doing nothing about it.
But that’s not the one I want to talk about. I want to talk about the aggressive “I’m gonna make this happen no matter what” kind of moves. Struggle can bring this out of us. Something I thought about today was: how do you harness this when times are good?
When times are good, it’s easy to take your foot off the gas. The fire is far away, so we don’t move with the same urgency. I want to have that urgency all the time, no matter what kind of times we’re in.
I don’t really have the answer on how to make that happen, but I think it’s a mindset we can forge over time. Could be post‑it notes around the house saying things like “remember how you operated when shit was falling apart.” Maybe a bit corny, but we do what we gotta do to remind ourselves to keep that sense of urgency on deck at all times.
Imagine the life you could build with that kind of momentum on your side.
