During a meeting yesterday, we started talking about purpose. It took me a really long time to reach the point where I feel like I know what I’m on this earth to do. I say “know,” but I’m not sure anyone can really know for certain. I have a mission that I’ve accepted as my purpose; something I’m willing to spend the rest of my life working on.
The big thing about finding your purpose is that it makes the struggle feel worthwhile. If you know what you’re working toward and believe in it, the struggle has a reason for being there. It’s required to get where you want to go.
Struggle without purpose just sucks.
Purpose doesn’t mean everything becomes easy. It means the difficult parts are connected to something that matters to you. You can tolerate a lot when you believe the effort is leading somewhere worthwhile.
Life’s purpose is different for everyone, and it can change as you do. You may not figure it out all at once. You might find it by paying attention to the things you’re willing to keep working on, even when they’re difficult.
It’s worth thinking about. What are you willing to spend the rest of your life working toward?
