I heard Tony Robbins say a quote today that went:
“The stronger the why, the more you try.”
What I’ve found is that when the reason for accomplishing a goal is outside of yourself, it can be more motivating to stay on track; especially when things are difficult. It’s easy to kick the can down the road when it only affects us, but when it affects other people, it creates a little more urgency.
When things are difficult for my business, it’s easier to keep pushing through. There are people relying on the business to put food on their table, and there are a lot of things I want to do for the graff community that wouldn’t happen if I didn’t keep going.
When it’s just about me, it’s a lot easier to say, “Fuck it, I’ll do it later.”
The “why” for getting into good physical shape, reading, developing as a person, and striving to be the best version of yourself can seem like it’s just about you, but there’s another side to it. If people around you see you getting better, it can inspire some of them to do better. I find that to be a stronger motivator than when it’s just for me.
