Almost everything we want in life—health, wealth, good relationships, spiritual peace—sits on the other side of discipline.
So how do you build it?
For me, discipline is simple: do the thing you know you need to do, whether you feel like it or not.
At work, I’m locked in. If customers or my team are counting on me, it gets done. No excuses. But in areas where I’m the only one relying on me—like fitness—I’ve struggled. I still work out, but it takes more effort. Willpower is limited, and I usually burn mine at work.
So I made it easier.
I already walk my dog every morning. Now I carry a 35lb kettlebell during the walk. It hits stability, bone density, core strength. It’s not complicated, but it stacks. My dog expects the walk, so I show up. The kettlebell just tags along.
When I get home, I do a five-minute EMOM. One muscle group per day.
Monday: push-ups
Tuesday: kettlebell rows
Wednesday: push press
…and so on.
It’s quick, it’s simple, and it gets done.
No, I’m not training for a competition. But if I keep showing up daily, it’s going to compound. Physically, yeah. But more importantly, mentally. I’m proving to myself that I follow through—even when I’m tired.
That’s how you build discipline.

Loved to see your commitment to the city and your work in the 90’s and 00’s. Real dedication. Love even more that you’re continuing to show and prove the same work ethic today. It’s why I’m a customer.

That’s an amazing story of integrity and tenacity. I talk about things like this on my morning motivation videos titled “Inspiring words of a graffiti artist” so thank you for sharing this, if you don’t mind I’d like to share it with my followers. Here’s a link to my YouTube channel:
