This photo was taken on a day in 1994 when Pale and I painted this yard in Atwater Village. It was a big deal to me. Pale was my favorite writer back then. He was a legend; big, simple pieces on illegal spots, yards, tags, and throwies everywhere. He was a well-rounded writer and well-known, even to people outside the scene.
I did some community service in ’93, and the lady in charge was even talking about him. I can’t remember everything she told me, but I remember her talking about how he had a shitload of hours and still kept catching tags wherever she sent him.
On the day in the photo, we did a Busr piece with a bunch of scraps I had. He did most of it. We painted a few other times in ’94 and maybe some in ’95. There’s that cliché, “Don’t meet your idols.” I’m glad I met him. He was always a solid dude to me.
Wish we painted more.
The second photo is enhanced and has some weird stuff going on, but it’s a little clearer. Lots of dope stuff on that wall, including a Tolse piece.

Damn. That shut my yap fast!
Thx for the story, homie. Fools need that more often, make us slow the roll, reminiscing for a sec about why we’re the nutters we are, and what it means when idols are ashes, the art poisonous, and we can’t help ourselves still.
I miss you, IDOLS1er, RIP, brother.
