This wasn’t something I realized until I was much older. There are people in this world you can like, wish the best for, and still not want in your life.

I can think of a few people I feel this way about. I thought about one of them the other day and had the thought, “I hope he’s doing well.” Then I had another thought: “I can’t have that person around me.”

It’s not necessarily that these people are bad. It’s that some people have stuff going on that can bring you down, take your focus away, or pull you away from what you’re trying to build in your life. Not everyone is compatible.

Sometimes you just wish them the best and keep your distance. You only have one shot at life. It’s worth considering whether the people around you are lifting you up or pulling you down.
