On Tuesday I wrote about the inner voice that tries to talk you out of doing what you need to do.

Skip the workout.
Sleep in.
Do it tomorrow.

For a long time, it felt like that voice was always against me. The best I could do was tell it to shut up and move anyway.

Something I’ve been noticing lately is that the more I act against that voice, the more it starts to quiet down. Not because it magically disappears, but because the evidence starts to stack up.

If, every time it says “skip the walk,” you do the walk…

If, every time it says “you always fall off,” you keep going one more day…

Over time, the voice doesn’t have as much to work with. It still shows up, but it’s weaker. Sometimes it even flips and starts backing you up.

“You’ve done this before. Just do it.”

You don’t have to argue with it or give it a motivational speech. Just keep doing the thing you said you’d do. The actions are what retrain the voice.

PS: I just released a new podcast episode diving deeper into this idea of dealing with the inner voice and taking action anyway. You can check it out here: https://graffitimachine.com/
