I just heard of this concept Deferred Happiness and it hit me pretty hard. The idea is that you feel you’ll be happy when a certain thing happens. For example, I’ll be happy when my career is better, when I’m in better shape, when I get this degree, or any other milestone you set for yourself.

The problem with living like this is the goalposts keep moving. There’s always a next thing and you’ll never really live in the present. There’s always the next thing. And then the next thing.

This is how I often find myself living and rarely take some time to realize that a lot of those things I wanted have already been achieved. There was a time you wished for the things you have. Take a little time to pause and celebrate the wins. It might help you live now rather than on a future that keeps moving further away.
