If you’re waiting on motivation to take action, you’re already behind. The problem with motivation, and specifically waiting for motivation to move on something is it’s unreliable. You may see a motivational video on social media, hear a quote, or maybe even an email like this and get a spark of motivation, but it’s fleeting.

The real moves get made with discipline. To build discipline, you need to start with daily actions. Things that you do no matter what. Every time you do those things even when you don’t want to, you’re adding a little bit to your discipline armor.

One mistake I’ve made and I’m sure lots of people make is trying to do too much too soon. Say you want to lose a bunch of weight and you decide to go from not exercising at all to hitting the gym for an hour a day. For the rare few, this might actually work—for the rest of us, it’s going to lead to failure.

Start small, make it non-negotiable, and build onto it over time. Compounding is a powerful force. Discipline in one area leads to another. Start building it today 👊
