Around 2000, I walked into the Motor Yard for the first time in a couple of years. For those not familiar, this is a famous graffiti spot in West Los Angeles dating back to the early 80s. It was an abandoned train tunnel that ended up being a hub for Los Angeles graffiti.
When I got there, I saw something I’d never seen. The walls had been painted over and a fence installed, blocking the tunnel. While there was new graffiti there since it had been painted, all of the old high-up stuff was gone. It felt like an omen for things to come. The beginning of the end.

Motor continued to be painted until 2013, when the city reclaimed the train tracks. Seeing these photos got me thinking. It’s easy to take the places and people we spend time with for granted, expecting they’ll always be there.
Everything in life is temporary, even when it feels permanent. This isn’t meant to sound like doom and gloom. What’s hard to remember is how important it is to appreciate these things while you have them.
Take pictures, create memories, live in the moment, and never take them for granted.

Dude it sucks to hear that such nostalgic graffiti had been buffed over from decades ago and almost breaks my heart, however you’re absolutely right everything in this world is temporary and we should cherish all the moments we have and take as many pictures as possible thank you for sharing the story and the photos
