Sundays often have me thinking about either rest or work. Where I’m at now, it’s working seven days a week. I understand the value of rest, but I have goals that feel more important than taking a day off right now. To be honest, on the days I try to take off, I end up thinking about work anyway, so I might as well knock some things out.

The way I do it is I try to weave rest into work days. Every day, I have some non‑negotiable tasks that I need to do to move things in the direction I want them to go. When I’m feeling burned out and could use rest, rather than taking a whole day off, I do smaller work sprints.

I’ll line up all my tasks and crank them out as fast as possible, then rest the remainder of the day. Some may say it’s not the healthiest thing to work every day. It’s been some years since I took a whole day off, and I seem to be doing okay.

For me, identifying when I need rest and working the sprint method is how it remains sustainable. This is just what works for me right now. Some people truly need full days off. The main thing is finding a rhythm you can sustain without burning out.
